Read Across America Week

As most of you know, our school wide activities for Read Across America were canceled as we are grieving the loss of one of our beloved teachers, Coach Doug Fuller.  Our school will never be the same.  Coach Fuller was loved by so many and he will be missed but not forgotten.  Our prayers are with his family.
We are trying to carry on.  Coach Fuller would have wanted us to continue our work with the students of our small school.  It is with that thought that the elementary teachers are still having some of the activities in our classrooms with Read Across America.

On Monday, we read Green Eggs and Ham  by Dr. Seuss and enjoyed green eggs and ham in honor of Theodore Seuss Geisel's birthday.  For the first time in my class, EVER, all of the students liked the green eggs and ham!! Most of them even wanted seconds!!

We also drew what we WOULD NOT LIKE to eat!
List included:
cheese
pepperoni pizza
cake
Are you kidding me???? I expected vegetables or liver or anything good for them, but these kiddos had their own ideas about what they like and don't like!

And then we had the sweeter version!

On Tuesday, we read The Cat in the Hat.  We decided that we would not like for the Cat to visit us.  We can mess our classroom up just fine on our own!
We made and ate the "Things", made our own "Thing" headband, wrote what would happen if the Cat came to our house, and did a directed drawing activity of the Cat in the Hat himself!
